SOLUTION FOR APOGEE P2 INTEGRATION
Our first site was completed in 2018 and it took 3 months to complete as it was a beta site. The client at this site is a large university located in Hong Kong. The estimated rip-and-replace device cost for the TECs would have been in excess of US$ 450,000 in materials alone. Labour and engineering time excluded.
Siemens Annual service fee: US$ 129,000
Siemens Upgrade Insight 3.8 to 3.15: US$ 248,000
Siemens Upgrade Insight 3.15 to Desigo CC: US$ 75,000
Panels: 234 (120,000 points)
TECs: 2325 (estimated value US$ 200 each = US$ 465,000)
At the site the TECs were not easily accessible often being installed behind skimmed ceilings. Due to the difficulty in accessing the space where the TEC devices were installed it was decided to retain the TECs. Another consideration was the airflow sensors built into the TECs. These venturi sensors are used to control the airflow in the ducting system. This would have increased the upgrade costs. It was also important to minimize any possible disruption of operations at this busy university.
The solution was to upgrade the site to a modern BMS system by using BACnetP2 to integrate with the existing system. This enabled the client to upgrade while retaining all those TECs without having to touch them. The upgrade was done at a lower cost than the siemens Desigo CC quoted price and the new service contract was less than half of the previous price.
Upgrade cost: US$ 248,000
Annual service fee : US$ 38,700
The final result was a smooth transition from the Insight to the new BAS system. There was no downtime on the apogee system because it was retained online throughout the upgrade. The client achieved a saving of US$ 75,000 on the system upgrade and can look forward to a service contract saving of US$ 90,000 per year going forward.
Savings on Siemens Insight 3.8 to Desigo CC upgrade: US$ 75,000
Annual service fee savings: US$ 90,300
